Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Looking at a Pinarello....

Any opinions or comments? 'Asking' price is $400 as it sits with a Campy cartridge BB, Thompson seatpost, titanium railed seat and stem/bar combo...

400 isn't a bad deal. They're cool bikes that can take a beating. What year is it?

Bad news. We pulled the frame down and threw some dummy wheels in it for a a test fit and it was a perfect fit for me.

As I was closely looking it over I found a crack in the headtube. It was about a 1-1/2" long and orginated at the bottom almost worked its way up to the weld. Viewing the headtube from the bottom it would be in the 7-8 o'clock position.

Thats a very odd position for a crack. Either the frome took a beating, it has a thin headtube or someone forcedd the lower headset cup in crooked.

Oh well, it was a good attempt.

Would it be worth trying to fix? Seems like a nice frame with some salvage value.

I dont think so. what bothered me was that frameset spottless. There's no way the crack could have gone un-noticed. eith the owner didnt tell the shop owner or the shop owner didnt tell me. Regardless, someoen new.

In my opinion it could probably be welded as the crack doesnt appear to reach the weld and the lower headset cup isnt loose. From a cost perspective if you look at the cost to weld it, re-paint it and ship it to wherever it needs to go plus the diminished value I'd think you'd be better off buying an un-damaged frame.
