Opinions on KHS CX 100 frame

I'm considering buying a KHS CX 100 frame and moving the components from my Trek road bike over to the KHS frame. It's mostly an Ultegra/105 mix of components. I understand that I'll need to get cantilever brakes to make the switch though.

The road bike (used entirely for commuting) is a Trek 1000 frame and fork that's been almost entirely upgraded. Will switching over to the KHS frame give me a good starting point for any future CX races that I may do later this year while still giving me a bike I can commute on?
