Surly Cross Check Sizing HELP... TALL ...60 or 62cm???
im about to order one online, but im 6'4", and im looking to do some touring on this bike. i dont like huge bikes... im worried that a 60 cm might be too short, as in bar height, to do comfortable distance rides. So, id like to hear from anyone with a 60 or 62cm, and get your 2 cents on this bike's fit. i almost got a long haul trucker, but i figure the cross check would be more versatile. if i got the trucker, id get a 60cm, as ive heard that a 62 is more like a 65 if it were any other manufacturer. thanks guys...
I recently got a 62cm CC. I'm 6'3", with a 36" pubic bone height. I left the steerer tube uncut. My saddle height is 32". Here's a picture:
I'm happy with this size, and glad I didn't go smaller. With the Scott bars, I spend 90% of my time out on the forward bar ends. With a drop bar, I might go for a bit shorter stem.
If you order frame only, you can pretty much control the bar height by where you cut (or not) the steerer tube.
Surlys run a bit bigger than most frames. They measure from the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube, not the top of the seat collar. You can roughly add about about 1cm to their effective size to compare to most other bikes (so a 62cm is more comparable to a 63cm, for instance).
I'm also 6'4" and the CrossXcheck is an excellent fit.
The top tube height is up there. But ... it is on all the surly's. Besides, if you are using it mainly on the road there is no need for a dropped top tube. And BTW, I ride my XL Karate Monkey off road and it's top tube is just as high. I've never racked myself.
