I should probably post this in the dumb questions thread but here I go:
Is a cyclcross essentially a road bike with "nobby" tires? what components would I need to change in order to turn my existing road bike into a cyclecross? Thanks, |
Usually, a CX bike has a more relaxed geometry with more clearance for larger tires. Similar to a touring bike. Also, the frames and fork have canti mounts for better braking and clearance.

superswede, sweet bike man!!
are you going to leave those reflectors on the wheels? |
I doubt you need them with the color. :D Great bike

When I find the guy that stole my CX bike, I will beat him with a stick severely about the head and chest.

i'm not as fast as my bike might make you think i am.

I'm not trying to troll -- I'm just a nub -- but aren't 16 spoke wheels a bad idea for cx? I thought the point was to build something bombproof. |
These rims are actually quite strong.
Plus, if I should have a problem, I've got backup wheels. |

Man, that Jake is so very orange. Am hoping my 07 is so very green ;)

I've become adept at replacing the garbage spokes on my 05 Snake, the damn heads just pop right off the things!

I'm looking to get into cyclocross, and i have a question for you riders. I have a old alu giant ocr (which i dont road ride anymore) and if i threw a pair of knobby tires onto it would it be alright as a cross bike? I dont really want to go out and drop money on a new bike esp when trying a new sport out. Any help would be appreciated

New BMC Cross Machine

I just finished setting this thing up. Bars and Stem are there until I determine the best set-up. This bike is great so far and the Force shifters are very nice. Still need some help setting up the front, but, the rear is perfect and very nice to use on rough terrain. Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels with Tufo tubulars.

Heya Matty, I got mine also :) Am waiting for new eggbeaters to arrive from the US before snapping a pic, but am riding the hell out of the snake with lesser crank bros in the meantime. Congrats :)
