Ooh, I didn't even notice the saddle. That's a Brooks... it looks pretty cool on the Poprad.

With all due respect to MIN's bike, which looks hot with the white tape, I agree.

There are always exceptions and I would agree.

MIN 03-03-09 12:09 PM

white tape isn't bad for keeping up appearances - if that's what you're alluding to. i have fizik tape currently and it doesn't stain at all. it requires a hasty wipe down and it's just like new. previously, i have run deda and cinelli cork - those tapes somewhat stain but i like the look of dirty white tape. i replace tape a couple times per year with deda or cinelli because they lose padding and breakdown faster but fizik lasts at least a year, barring rips and tears.

Cynikal 03-03-09 12:12 PM

Good to know about the fizik tape.

I agree.
there's nothing wrong spending half an hour scrubbing muck out of your white cork tape. :D

62cm Surly Cross Check (no decals)
Campy Veloce shifters
No-name stem and cheap ergo-drops
Tektor 720 cantis
Ultegra Crank 53x39
Shimano 600 FD
Ultegra RD
8 speed SRAM 11-28 cassette
Mavic Cosmic Elite with 32x700 Vittoria Randonnuer tires
No Name seat post
San Marco Rolls saddle

Does its job well and is alot of fun. Going to go single ring when racing and also maybe just for general use since I never, ever use the 53 ring even on big downhills.

i'm glad i got my group buy in flat black (since it's my commuter, and all my bikes but one are black).

but damn, that orange is hot.

'08 LeMond Poprad with Bontrager Race Lite compact crankset (50/34), Ultegra pedals, and CXP23/Tiagra wheels. It's got a different stem on it, too, but I'm not sure of the brand. It was inexpensive, bought it at a bike store to test out the angles. It says "CUN" on the side, I think. *shrug*

iamtim 03-16-09 08:49 AM

Here's a little better picture of it, just cuz I'm wacky about taking pictures of my bike. :)

@iamtim: probably "UNO", not "CUN"?

HAH! You are a demigod of some sort. With that hint I was able to find it online; it's a Kalloy UNO stem. Yay!

no, I'm mere mortal. easy, I once used the exact same stem... it's inexpensive, yes.

@ lbear: pardon me asking, what do you mean?

Soma DoubleCross DC frame/fork
SRAM Rival/Force shifters/derailleurs
FSA Energy cranks 48/38
Thompson seatpost and stem
Kestrel EMS Pro bars
King Hubs laced to Velocity Deep Vs
King headset
Avid BB7 Road Disc Brakes
FSA SLK Carbon saddle
I used these tires in the winter (better traction in light snow/dirt/mud)
Now I have 25mm gatorskins for 15mile daily commute.

ranggapanji 03-18-09 03:02 AM

that's exactly what I need. fenders! but my frame is lack of tire clearance...

nice bike.

B17 03-18-09 10:14 AM

That Soma looks great. The straight-bladed fork and the color just make it look better than every Soma I've ever seen (including a DC frame I used to own).

excited to be apart of the bikeforums community and look forward to learning about all sorts of stuff.

I had that bike (frame) and sold it
Not at all one of my brightest moments...I loved that bike...making a new build as we speak...Not the same frame of course, but pretty identical......

I've already posted this elsewhere in the CX forum, but thought I'd add it to the list.

I never posted pics of this conversion while I had it:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3195/...56dae77444.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3080/...af76ea0df7.jpg

It's gone now. It was just sort of an interim bike used to help me figure out what size/setup I liked before I dropped money on something nice.

Also this was the initial build of my Iro Rob Roy:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2345/...f6cff38d5e.jpg

It's totally different now, that was just an interim build, really. It now has different wheels, bars, stem, seatpost, seat, rear brake, fork... also I lost that tape on the top tube. I was just seeing what that would be like. I need to take some new pics.

The Trek was much nicer IMO. I'd be sad to see it leave.

Than what? The iro? Hell no. The trek was hi-ten except for the seattube. The iro wasn't a replacement anyway, I got rid of the trek and put the good parts I was using on a motobecane fantom cross frame I got cheap.
