When do you start running?
OK, so I'm itching for cyclocross season already.
For those of you who do some running to train for CX races, when do you start your running program?
I dove in blind last season, thinking that my general biking mileage was going to be enough to carry be and I found myself woefully unprepared. So this year, I'm going to do a bit of prep work, including running. I started yesterday (first race is Sept. 12).
Just curious as to what other people do.

I'm trying to run now and some interval training. I've stopped doing long rides and focused on 1 hour training sessions on grass.

Last year I did a century two weeks before my first race. Huge mistake!

Well, I couldn't tell you the physiology of it, but by the third lap one of the volunteers on the course was pushing me up a hill. It wasn't pretty.

I usually start running after going to a race with a runup that kicks my ass.
Ideally, I'd probably start running about 3 weeks before the first race of the season.

I run year round, but for cross this year I'm planning on doing some workouts that are a mile at AT pace (around 6:30) followed by a sprint/interval up a medium length hill. I'll try and let you know how it works.

is training necessary if i'm just going to do 2/3 races for fun? i do a lot of road riding, so that might help a little and going to put my mtb back together for some off road training

It depends on how well you want to do and how fast you already are. It's not necessary if you're just going for fun.

This year I want to finish in the top 75 at least once.
