too many choices
I'm ready to buy a cyclo cross. willing to spend ~1500. considering...
Specialized tricross sport (comp if I can run accross a deal)
Kona Jake the snake
Fuji Cross Pro
Cannondale cyclo 5
even a Cannondale CADD9 with beefier tires
as said in another thread, I'm 6'5" and 300 lbs. I've been all over the specs of the above bikes, but have only actually test rode the specialized.
General question about components, I hear people settle for a lesser component saying they'll upgrade when it goes... When do they "go"? Going by specs alone, I think the Fuji wins.
Also in a perfect world, I'd like to buy a bike as is, not having to build it/swap parts at initial purchase. Is this wise for a lad my size? I went to Conte's in Arlington today and they were telling me they'd custom anything for me before I left, thus the talk about the CADD9 with bigger tires and top handle brakes.
Would I/Should I consider stronger wheels on any of these at initial purchase?
I've read good reviews of each bike, and I know people are partial to what they have. all that said, I don't think there's a loser in the group.
All that said, which would you lean to for me?

The CAAD probably isn't going to handle much beefier tires than what's spec'd, assuming you're talking about the road model. You might fit a skinny 28 in there but if you're truly after a cross bike, that won't be it.
That said, I'm assuming you looked at the Kona/Fuji at Big Wheel? My best recommendation is to go with the shop that you feel gives you the best service/advice.
All the stock wheels are fine out of the gate for your size, but if they are truly being honest about swaps, then going to a 32 spoke Shimano hub/ Mavic rim certainly won't hurt.
