Anyone on the board have any of the 02/03 K2 Enemy Cyclecross frames (black and silver paint scheme)? We have two bikes, one medium the other a small. The medium was purchased first and then the small 2-3 weeks later, so they arent from the same build lot ( the medium was already built in the bike shop the small had to be ordered). As of right now the frames were sent back to K2 (frame and fork) about a week ago... They rep said we may have the replacement frames back by this Friday, hopefully the new version of the frame with a different headset design... Anyway here are the pictures.

Any idea what caused the crack? I have an AL mountain bike that developed a similar crack in the headtube shortly after my LBS installed a Chris King headset. I didn't notice the cracks (there are actually three) until after I ran a race on the bike. Could this occurred from installing the headset? Not surprisingly, LBS said "no." LOL.

Nothing has been added to the bikes with the exception of different seats and tires :/ so i doubt its anything i directly did to the bike. One possibilty that i was thinking about was that the weld temperatures might have gotten a bit high since the bead is all over the cups. I really have no idea how long we rode on the bikes with them cracked like that. My riding style to hers is much different. I bunny hop the bike all over the place, ride wheelies on it. Im definatly much more agressive on my bike (small size, hers is the medium) than she has ever been on hers.

    Update:

K2 warrantied both frames (had no doubts on this). We got the new version of frames with the integrated HS.

    Sad part:

When they were pulling apart my frame (sz: small) they claimed that the bottom bracket was damaged and so was the threading in the bottom bracket. Now i have no clue as to how this happened, i havent had to service anything on the bike since i bought it over a year ago... In any case after the local REI rebuilt up the bikes i called to check the status on them they tell me they are still waiting on the BB to be warrantied by K2, (3 weeks so far without the bikes). The local REI guy keeps giving me the run around saying they havent heard from K2 and that they are waiting on K2. One guy went as far as saying K2 dropped the ball and not them :dunno:...

So in any case today i do some digging and find the BBB up in Washington and local K2's Quality Assurance Managers phone number. I give this guy a ring and explained what was happening and that their dealer was telling me that the delay was at K2 and not them. He looks up the RMA's for the frames and see's no mention of a bad bottom bracket. Thankfully he is calling the local REI store right now to straighten all this crap out. I've about had it and may purchase my own damn BB so i can have my bike back :/...

    Just thought i would share.

I would actually put a lot of trust in the fact that K2 really hadn't called the dealer back. I work for a K2 dealer and I know our K2 rep quite well, he has told me on numerous occasions how bad their dealer service is. I have had to fight with it on several occasions to get new bikes repaired that had defective parts out of the box, etc. They make some cool bikes but their dealer service department blows.

Your bike mechanic is wise beyond your wildest dreams.

If you can't be good at one sport then you can be okay at three.

Hey, I know this is an old subject on here but i just happen to read it thought I would give my two cents worth. Just to let you know that K2 Bike only stocks a supply of frames, forks or anything K2 branded (seat posts or stems with the K2 logo on it). This is the case with many bike companies that dont offer "house brand" components on their bikes & dont have a selection of components at their disposal. This does make it difficult to help out IBD's or other shops that have a problem with a particular component right out of the box. It seems that some (not all) shops would rather go to the manufacure of the complete bike as opposed to the component company themselves for support. In this case, TruVativ. In your case, I can assure you, REI was notified that TruVativ bottom brackets were on BO at TruVativ (K2 doesnt stock these). It sounds like the message wasnt relayed to you with all the facts. It happens. The reason I know this is because I personally called within a day of receiving your frames. Anyway, to make a long story short, the BB you received was out of my personal bike, a new Enemy (not built, you got a brand new BB). I then waited for TruVativ to send me one. I think thats pretty good dealer service, well, i work in warranty but we're on the same team. Just thought I would share that with you. Hope your like your new ride. DP
