Frame pump location

So I'm in midst of putting my cross bike together and I am running into a snag, pump location. On my road bikes, I never though about this. I placed the mount on seat tube bottle braze-on; I just remove the pump for races. This is going to be my first cross season. Where does one place the pump mount? I have two mount choices: one that mounts to the side of the bottle cage and one that can be placed anywhere with zip ties. The mount will be empty during races, just don't want it to get in the way of mounting, dismounting, and shouldering the bike.

Thoughts?

Why would you take a pump along during a race? They have them in the pits.

Unless the mount is larger than ones I've seen, I don't see it being an issue.

I'm not taking a pump during a race... The mount will be empty. I will train on this rig, thus the need to fix flats on the go.

Sorry, reading comprehension wasn't very good for me that day. How about a frame pump? They type that goes along the top tube and secures via velcro? No mount to worry about then.

I have been training with my cross bike (haven't raced yet) with a pump since winter. I mounted mine with zip ties under the seat stay between the canti mount and the rear axle. It's out of the way and I haven't had any issues yet. I also will be leaving it behind during the races.

+1

That's the exact same place I mounted mine on my commuter/club ride/do everything bike.

I mount my pump to the bottle cage braze-ons on the down tube, but I take it off at the beginning of cross season when I remove the bottle cages.
