I am trying to put together a cross bike and I am lost as far as wheels go...I am going to use Chris King hubs and am considering the Mavic CXP33 but have heard some bad things about that rim, such as they dont have eyelets and tend to crack around the holes....is there any truth to this. Any suggestions......what wheelsets can be counted on for mostly on pavement but I will be taking this off road as well (70/30)(700c). These wheels will need to stand up to pretty rigorous commuting. I am a lightweight (150 lbs) if that is a consideration.

I have been real happy with http://www.velocityusa.com/ right now I have a arrowhead in front and I will have the deepv in back. but the arrowhead in back is great for you. but I am 238.00 so I pound hell out of the back tire.
rims don't have to have eyelets to be strong.

I had a Salsa Delgado Cross wheelset with 14ga spokes built up. 36/H. Bullet proof and then some. Never out of true, no broken spokes. I asked for the Cross version of Rhyno Lites. These are it. Don't know you if have to go as extreme/heavy as these. I didn't care. Didn't want to mess with constant wheel problems. That isn't part of riding for me.

I ride Mavic Open Pro 32 spoke wheels with Ultegra hubs. I've had them about 10 months and used them for commuting and lots of riding on the pot-hole ridden country-lanes around my home. Although I've only used my brakes as a guide and not stuck them on a stand I haven't needed to true them yet. They're great and not hideously pricy.

Sun CR18. Take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. I ride them off-road all the time. I'm getting ready to try out a Salsa Delgado for a new front wheel I'm building. They seem to get good reviews and are a bit lighter.

I was wondering the same thing. I am a big (300#) guy who communtes. I called my favorite wheel builder and he recommends the Alex Rims Adventurer. http://alexrims.com/rims/ct_advnt.htm They are wide and will require 28mm tires.
He ordered me up a set and will combine it with 105 hubs. I know in a couple of month if they are good.
