Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Train SS or multi?

Just wondering what people's takes are on their training for CX. Do you find it more beneficial to train on a single speed and then race your normal Dbl/10spd (for example) or do you find it better to train on your race bike to keep a constant variable and to "play like you practice" as they say?

There are three very important training principles to consider: Specificity, specificity, and specificity.

That's the same boat I'm in. I have only done two races and only started "training" on bikes for maybe 6 or 7 months. I ride a steel frame that I converted to a cross bike from an old trek, but have started to slowly build up a second bike. I had been thinking about converting my current bike to a singlespeed after i finish the second one, just for fun.

I definitely wouldn't convert my only bike to singlespeed for training purposes. There are some useful things that riding a singlespeed will do for you, but a geared bike is much better for things like building an aerobic base, which should be your focus for the next six to eight months. As you get closer to the season, as flargle said, you want to train and practice with the bike you'll be racing on.
