Brake Pads

I have Avid Shorty 4 brakes on my cyclocross bike. I need new pads but am slightly confused when it comes to which pads to choose. I want to upgrade from the stock pad and go to a cartridge model if possible. Will pads that are made primarily for linear braking systems still work with the Canti's? Avid recommends the Rim Wrangler (which looks just like a linear pull pad to me) but it gets horrible reviews. Would something like a Aztec Ultra V pad work? Any other brake pad name brand suggestions?
Any information would be a great help.
Thanks

I run Aztec Ultra Vs on my drop bar hybrid conversion, and while the cartridges are nice, the pads themselves are like cinderblocks. I just replaced with Kool Stop salmon pads. You should be able to use these without an issue, but after buying the Aztecs, I really see no benefit of a cartridge over a standard pad.

The Kool Stop salmons are soft, and next time I will be going with the Kool Stop blacks.

I was recommended to go with Kool Stop black and salmon for regular riding and all salmon for rain on my Tektro Oryx.

Keep reading great stuff about Kool Stop. I just mentioned the Aztecs as Nashbar has them on sale. I will now make my decision based on your recommendations.
Thanks guys.
