Mammoth Mountain
Anyone here take their CX bike to Mammoth Mountain? I will be going over the July 4th weekend. I know the bikes have their limits, and I have mine. I plan not exceed either. I'm looking forward to the looks of "What is this guy doing here with a road bike?" while I'm at the top, or in line for the gondola. This, btw, isn't meant to be bragging, just out having fun. To me, getting to tell others about CX bikes is fun, maybe I'll find more out there as a result.

A lot of fire road type areas to the north of town, like the Sawmill area and scenic loop.

I think the downhillers will fly past you as you carefully and slowly pick your way down the mountain and conclude that CX bikes are the opposite of fun.

The downhillers have different trails to take. If you look at the map, I'll be on the blue trails. Red and Orange are downhill zoom trails. Besides, I'll be having fun. I also won't be as slow as you'd think.

Ah. What fun it was! I went down the mountain nine times. The only trails down from the top were Off The Top and Kamikaze. Well, the top half of Off The Top anyway. Kamikaze the rest of the way down. Lots of fun. Got quite a few positive remarks from quite a few people. It really wasn't that big a deal. Most, if not all, the non-speed down hill runs were very easy on a cx bike. I highly recommend going. It was fun, and it seemed I was the only one on a cx bike there.

Rode Mammoth again, down the mountain six times. Still got a lot of positive responses - "Wow, I'm impressed", "Hardcore", "Cool". Had lots of fun, explored some trails I hadn't taken before. I also did some climbing the first day, from the Village to Red Lake and Minaret Summit via the trails. More should go.
