Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Is this Mongoose a decent starter cross bike?

I'm looking to try cross racing and found this bike used.

It is a 1996 with RSX STI (3 x 7) components and Mavic rims.

Would this make a good starter cross bike? Can anyone tell me the model?

It is hard to tell from the picture what type of brakes it has. I don't see any cross brake levers on it.

Probably a Omega model

Says it came with 700x28's, so you could possibly fit some 700x30 or maybe 32 cross tires on there.

I wouldn't worry about the cross brake levers. You should be good without them.

This bike might work fine for cross, but I don't think I'd use it for that if I didn't already own it. If you want to race cross and don't have a bike yet, look for a cross bike. You'll be much happier.
