Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Mercier Kilo WT5 as cross bike?

I came across this over on Bikes Direct and got me thinking:
http://bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott_wt5.htm

After swapping out the tires for something more cx friendly, how would this fare as a cx bike?

both the uno and the wt5 have a cable stop right under the TT, which isn't ideal, right?

I think it would work well until you had a REALLY muddy ride and needed to take apart the 5 speed IGH. That sounds pretty undesirable...

It's doable, but the bike will not be as fast as a derailleured bike.

^ you'd be surprised. I'm not much slower (if at all) on my single speed as I was on my geared bike.

But this is a 5 speed internally geared bike. That adds mechanical friction.
