I work at a LBS and I'm contemplating a prodeal. The Jamis or the Kona? The Jamis has carbon stays, full SRAM Apex, and all cables routed on top. The Kona has BB30, better wheelset, and more aggressive geometry. Both have full carbon forks with tapered headtubes. The Kona is about $100 more. This is a tough choice!

If you want Apex then go that route. I think it sounds like a great idea for a 1x10 cross setup.

The better wheels are always nice because they'll be taking some serious beating but are they worth $100 more?

How about the frame difference? I'll be getting a second set of wheels for either for road riding.

Geometry is king, in my opinion. I wouldn't want carbon stays on a cross bike. If I want more squish I would just take advantage of all that clearance and run fatter tires.

Although SRAM Apex stuff is nice. And I really like having the cables run up top. Combine that with SRAM's flak jacket cable sets and you'll have good cable performance for ages.

You're right this is a tough decision...but I would buy the Kona. Assuming, that is, you want the aggressive geometry. If you aren't going to race the thing, probably the Jamis has the edge.

Don't assume that lower handlebars or steeper angles are better for racing.

I agree on the carbon fiber stay not being a good thing, but I'm not too worried about that. And the geo on both work for me. It's really the BB30 or the SRAM Apex.
