Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Cattle CROSSing--Leesburg, VA

Anyone know anything about this race? I'm interested in signing up, but not sure about the "obstacles" they are so excited about

sounds like fun....esp. the mystery of it...who knows, maybe old tires, bales of hay...

wasn't really considering it, but under 3 hours away is no longer 'too far' for me....esp. now i have a 'real' cx bike and i've raced my first two seasons on a 24 pound steel mutantcross bike!

if you're close enough to this, you can't regret it.

And here I told myself the season was over. But this looks very tempting.

The person doing the write-up has a good sense of humor - "leave your CF race wheels at home" and "doping is not permitted until after the race".

though this isn't a USAC race, will the results still show up on crossresults.com?

I'm thinking "a few natural features as obstacles" could mean cow dung?

I invited a friend last minute (tonight) and he's doing it. Fun fun fun. He doesn't race. Mostly he just rides his fixie around philly.

it's still a haul, but i am still considering it tho i haven't done my usual weekly 'prep'...i think it's the coming rain that's really getting me to reconsider...i need a good mud bath...but 3 hours of driving....then 3 back? well, it's for the 45 minutes of pain. always trumps the boring 6 hours of driving

Looks like it won't be raining during the race.

Excellent.

sorry i am missing it...i actually feel guilty, ha! as i put on my facebook page:

i probably did the right thing...stayed up late, cleaned house, organized...but with all that rain/MUD in Leesburg VA, i regret not getting up at 4, leaving by 5, arriving by 8, registering and riding the course 2x, racing at 9, hanging around 'til 12, getting back home around 3...or 4

i actually hope it didn't rain during the race so i will feel like i didn't miss out on anything...but was it a slopfest? i'll make up for it today by hitting the brandywine trails in delaware...we are having intense winds and hard rain up here

i'll certainly be down for several DC area races next season

Flatted a tubular tire in the first quarter of the first lap - ran the rest of it back to the start. Borrowed a team mates bike - a 52 - and I ride a 56. Finished not last!

It was not raining for the most part during the race - maybe some mist, I didn't notice. Really foggy. I started off on my 56 cm ridley and ended on a 52 cm tricross with the seat level with my top tube.

That was fun. And yes it was cow dung. Also lots of slick mud. And boulders. Many boulders.

Boulders tore the sidewall of my $110 tire.

I don't like boulders anymore.

what race was this. it LOOKS slow, but i am sure it was a pure slogfest. no one looked though like they were in pain or huppin' it!
