Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Lemond 2005 Poprad Tire Clearance Question

Please forgive me if this was answered before (I wasn't able to find it), but does anyone know the clearance on a 2005 Lemond Poprad? I'd like to get 40s in there, but want to confirm they'll fit before buying them. Mine also has an Alpha Q fork on the front...but the fork clearance looks more generous than the rear.

Forgive me if this sounds snarky but can't you just measure your frame? You have the frame already, correct? If not I can measure my 05 Poprad when I get home for you.

Uhhh...errr...(looking embarrassed)...

I wasn't sure how the tire measurements ended up in the real world...given that there is rim variation. I also wasn't sure how much clearance I functionally need for snow/dirt...so was hoping someone could advise with a real world functional limit. Not just a "will it fit". Am I making any sense?

I have a 2007. I assume it is similar. The rear 32C Bontrager Jones CXR that came on the bike rubbed through the paint the first time I went through mud. My 37C Conti TravelContact fits much better. I sometimes use a 42C Kenda knobby in the front with room to spare.

Thanks folks! I think it has room for 40s...maybe even 42s. I have 35s in there now and there is space.

also remember that whatever it measures at the frame isn't going to be what tire size you can put in it. Each manufacturer has a different idea of how to measure a tire it seems. Sometimes even at the same company. I have two Continental tires 25 and a 28 that are the exact same size.

Do you still have this bike or remember how it worked out with 40s or 42s?

One of my friends has a Poprad disc, and had to crimp the chainstays to clear 38c Bontrager CX0 tires.

I have this bike with 35c Schwalbe Marathon Mondial. My wheel goes much out of true and a get some rub on the chainstays. Looking for some 33c tires as a result.
