Hey guys im a track bike rider looking to get into cx, since i already have a few ss bikes I want my new cx to have gears. I was wondering if someone could post some entry level cx bikes that are worth looking at im prob going to buy one with my next paycheck. I want something for racing on mud and dirt in the price range of 750-1300. Alu or steel, with a set of good components to the point where i dont need to upgrade everything and can just change saddle and pedals.

Specialized Crux. Great bike. The aluminum version is a monster frame. Definatly upgrade worthy down the line as well.

For that much you could build a decent cx bike. Hell pick up the Nasbar frame and build it up and have money leftover. I'm building up a 85 Schwinn World Sport that I just had canti bosses brazed on. Frame and fork cost me ten bucks and the brazing cost me twenty. I even had some dt shifter bosses added on just incase I want to run them later on. It's not the best frame but it's still double butted chromoly. Now just paint and she'll be ready to building up. Just another option.

With CX season over, I'd look over craigslist. Cross bikes don't hold their value as well as road bike, regardless if they are raced or not. You could get a mid level to high end bike for the price of an entry level one.

X2. I found my fairly new cross bike on craigers for 1/3 the msrp because the season had just ended. The beauty part was the bike hadn't even been raced!

Ridley sizes are based on seattube C-C and they have relatively steep seat tubes, so the 54 (54.5 eff TT) is more like a 56 or 57 from another company.

Okay thats guys is there any cheaper entry level bikes that come with an okay set of compenents in the 600-800 price range?

Depends on what you are calling ok... Based off what I would think is Ok, No. Unless you go used. If you have to have new, I think you're only option is to go to bikesdirect. You can get a 105 equiped aluminum framed bike that'd probably be fine for less than $800.
