Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Old school goodness

I don't race (but would like to build up to that level of fitness). I recently acquired some lightweight CX wheels with high flange hubs - and decided to ride the 184 mile Tour De Canal charity ride. I rode it in 2009 on a MTB and a cross bike will be much better. As a result / reward I just won this bid:

Guerciotti CX Alan Frame, Fork with H/S and Seat Post

Besides the wheelset I have a compact Campy crankset, Velo Orange cantis, and some nice silver alloy drop bars.

Very pretty - the final build should be stunning!

(Don't forget to fit a fork mounted canti hanger: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...X-how-to-solve)

Screwed and glued goodness. Congrats. I've been keeping an ear to the ground for a vintage cross frame but I think I have enough for now.

Nice. The frames look similar - are your tubes carbon or painted? What's the FD clamp size? I'm ordering parts this weekend.

I think there were both a alu and carbon version of these frames.

The bike frame is waiting at my front door. I have to ride home -- soon!

Thanks. She's waiting on a set of 700x28 GP 4 season tires, black bar tape, and some mods to the cantilever cable guides. At 22 lbs she climbs well but has some fork shudder issues on braking. If / when I take her off road (not counting the C&O canal trail that's reasonably mild) I'd change out the Look pedals and probably use some knobby Ritchey cross tires.

The order came from the UK in a couple days shipping! I got the Conti GP 4 Season tire installed - nice, if slick. I got some Italian tape and the yellow was so nice I switched from the perforated black. I have a SRAM cassette with yellow spider ordered but not installed - it should look good.

Compact double up front, SRAM 11-32T 9 cog in back. The rear is 130mm; the dropouts did not take much persuasion to fit.

Dont try to permanently cold-set aluminum (as you can with steel), but just spreading the stays from 126 to 130mm for the wider hub is fine.

I drilled the fork and installed the fork mounted cable guide tonight. My last commute went well but the earlier McGuyver style mount ended up rubbing the tire and hampered turning the front wheel.
I'm considering using the thorn resistant tubes and some Ritchey 35 cross tires for when I start riding the C&O trail later this spring. Until then I'll use her more often for the paved route to work.

What tape is that? The yellow looks like the perfect match for my old school allez. I've been looking for two years for the right yellow!
btw, bike looks great.

Thanks! I cannot wait to ride her again - I've been sick with hayfever and a bad cold for over a week now. I was initially considering some black tape, and some black perforated tape. The GP 4 season tires arrived from Ribble Cycles in the UK along with several sets of tape I added to the order since they had 15% off and the additions didn't increase the $25 shipping fee.

The yellow tape is Italian (quite appropriate in this case) and cost $4.84.
