Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Sourcing alloy CX frames?

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. If I posted this in the wrong place or if this could be put in a better sub-section, please let me know.

I've seen a thread or two about sourcing Asian CF frames but a quick search provided me nothing with sourcing Asian alloy frames.

My first thought was to try to contact Kinesis but the email and phone numbers listed on their site do not work. I know that Giant produces alloy frames for several bike companies but I suspect that an order of 10-15 frames is not exactly what they'd like to be bothered with.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to who else I might be able to contact?

Thanks in advance.

If you/ your team can afford it I would get the 2011 Kona Jake the Snake. $450 for the frame/fork. Tapered head tube, BB30 bottom bracket, good reliable carbon bladed/alu steerer fork, the frame is absolutely gorgeous. Spec it with rival and a force carbon crank and you have a seriously awesome race bike.

I agree about the JtS frameset. I believe any Kona dealer can sell them to you.

For slightly cheaper, you can get Motobecane framesets from BikeIsland.com, which I think may well be Kinesis. Another possibility, often cheaper than the Motobecane is the Scattante XRL from Performance.

Of course, all these are retail options and it sounds like you're looking for wholesale. If you are sourcing these for a business venture of some kind, you could try contacting Seattle Bike Supply about Redline Conquest framesets.

Since you mentioned Kinesis, Pro Bike Kit, Wiggle and probably some other online sellers have a - what looks to me to be a pretty nice - Crosslight 5T frame for around $280 or so (PBK free shipping, Wiggle ~$50). There's a couple of options for Kinesis cross forks, the alloy Crosslight for about $100 (excellent reputation) and the full carbonfiber Pure Cross (or something like that) which PBK has for around $160 shipped. I almost pulled the trigger w/ PBK because there is usually 10% off beyond that and w/ free shipping and their new points system, I think I could have gotten the frame and carbon fork for less than $450, delivered. This stuff looked pretty good to me and had geometry and other featurs I was looking for.

There are also 2010 JTS frame/forks available for around $400 and 2011 for $450 plus shipping, which can be $50-$100 from US sellers.
