cross bike cleaning?

I was wondering what you all do during the winter when you're riding your cross bikes, they get all muddy, and your outside pipes are frozen so you can't just spray down your bike? Seems really time consuming and messy to be cleaning your bike with a rag and some cleaner in your house. What do you guys do to solve this problem?

You might want to let the mud dry completely then use a dry long bristle brush (like the brush that comes with a dustpan or a car washing type brush) to knock a majority of the dirt off while you are outside. Then a large old towel wet with hot water and wrung out will get the rest of the looser dirt off. Then you can bring it inside and finish the cleaning, if you desire.

I have an outside hose connected to a hot water faucet. I use a sponge and bucket of hot soapy water and a toilet brush. Tne next day or so it will need to be lubbed again. If the venue has a cleaning station I will at least spray the bike down best as possible.

If the mud dries, and old rug without water will do the job. Some more stubborn spots will require a wet rug. In either case, do it indoors after the whole bike is dry. Try to keep it indoors after cleaning so that you can prevent additional condensation inside your frame tubes. I've seen people who are very careful and after they clean everything carefully, they use some car wax and polish their frames. Nice thing. It gives it a shine and repells water to some degree. Later mud comes off easier too.
