new shoes under 200$?
I need new shoes for under $200, any suggestions? I race in Oregon where it is frequently wet as wet can be. I was wondering if i should get "waterproof" insulated shoes, or would those just fill up like buckets? Is is better to get "breathable" shoes that will drain water, and i'll just deal with the cold feet?
I know I need a buckle and toe spikes, but preferably someone else who rides in the NW can give me some recommendations on good shoes for our area. thanks!

The answer is always "whichever fits best" for me that is Sidi but the downside can be that when wet they stretch. I wish that Specialized fit me right because they are nice shoes.

Maybe it depends on how competitive you intend to be. I've raced the past three seasons with a pair of $80 Pearl Izumis (Quest, I think...whatever the Select replaced) with mesh and leather uppers and three velcro straps. I had to take them to a cobbler because I keep doing something that cuts the inside of the right heel open, but other than that I have no complaints. I've seen people have trouble unbuckling their shoes after a particularly muddy race, but I haven't had any problems with the Velcro straps.
I can't imagine any shoe that's going to keep your feet dry. My recommendation is to wear thick wool socks.

I was thinking about this more last night, and I'm really looking for the equivalent of Dr. Martins, in cycling shoe form. I know they don't exist yet, but they really should. something indestructible. I was in a lbs yesterday looking at shoes and their all way too space-aged looking/$cost-ing$ for something that will get destroyed in a season or two.
when it's full of water, and caked in mud, does it really help that the shoe weighs in at .003 micrograms, or whatever?

+100! I think I may have emailed Doc Martin about this. I am trying to invent some sort of device you can hook around your shoe so you can clip it in.

Get these.
I have 2 seasons on mine (in PDX). I expect to get a 3rd, maybe a 4th. I am a clyde' and break a lot of stuff. You won't even need the toe spikes because the lugs on the sole are so solid.
Besides, they are on sale for $60 right now. SIDIs are too damn expensive.
