Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Please suggest a steel fork with both Disc brake and canti mounts.

Please suggest a steel fork with both Disc brake and canti mounts.

I’ve been riding my Soma Double Cross DC with a Ridley fork. This fork has been wonderful. No shudder, stiff on fast descents, light weight and a smooth ride quality.

My needs have changed, however, and I need a fork with fender mounts. I’ll be using the bike more for gravel and winter travel than on-road. I might as well get a fork with Disc brake mounts since I will probably add disc brakes front & rear at some later date. I also want cantilever brake mounts since that is what I’m running now.

IRD offers a fork for the Soma Double Cross DC, but no canti mounts. The IRD fork features Tange CrMo blades and CrMo steerer. Fender eyelets at fork tips. Int'l standard disc mount. (395mm axle to crown, 44mm rake) : https://www.interlocracing.com/forks.html

I also found this fork : https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product..._#ReviewHeader

What are my options? I’d like to avoid a fork that is too heavy and I’d like to maintain some ride quality and avoid brake shudder.

P.S. I vote to just get the IRD straight blade cross fork that you need now, and worry about the disc brakes when the time comes.

Actually the Fisticuff fork looks good. I've emailed Vassago for more info.

If thats not available as an individual item, I might just take the plunge and convert the bike to discs. Right now the Salsa La Cruz disc fork looks good at 995 grams and $91 from Bikeman.

I'd get the carbon if I was going to get a Nashbar fork it's basically a Winwood and has a ton of tire clearance as I understand. If this fork has the same clearance as my fisty fork I would probably go to it I just don't know the A to C

I have a Fisty, the fork is nice it does shutter sometimes but it's mainly on the road vs when I do full on singletrack (odd to me). The fork is not available as I see from Vassago's website they are also going through a ton of changes. I wish they would come out with a carbon fork I would be all over it.

If you need anymore pics of this fork just let me know what you want.

Great suggestion, I'll give it a try. My Soma will become my rain/winter/towpath bike and this fork looks ideal. I don't know how I overlooked it.

If it were me, I'd jump to disc brakes now, but that's at least partly because I don't like the look of unused canti studs.

I've got a Civia Bryant fork on my Jake, which has two sets of eyelets and front rack braze-ons. As I recall the weight was just under two pounds with an uncut steerer.

You can also use the Bryant fork with caliper brakes.

I've decided to stay with cantilevers.

I haven’t had any serious problems with cantilevers, so this is a don't-fix-what's-not-broken decision.

I would also have to change over a fleet of wheelsets.
