2011 Scott Addict R3 and Redline Conquest with Campy Veloce
Chain options for my cross build.
I've got a cyclocross build going on and I've got one problem, the chain. I'm looking for a budget chain that would be good for a 2002 Campy Veloce Triple. The chain I'm most interested in buying is the KMC X9 chain. Is it good enough? Should I spring the extra money for a Campy 9 sp. chain?
My main question is compatibility, not really how good the product is..
I'm talking out the side of my neck, but: if they make a 10sp chain that works great with all my 10sp gear, it stands to reason that their 9sp chain will also work with any 9sp drivetrain. I don't run any triple setups, so there maybe some obvious issue I'm missing.
Couldn't you compare chain width and determine compatibility that way?
KMC is a fine chain company. Their products will serve you well and last as long as any other. Unless you have Campy components and want the status of having a Campy chain, go for the KMC. If you race and pay for your own equipment, go for the KMC or any other chain that will most likely get you through the race. It'll be better to have 2 chains that are less expensive than one very expensive chain. It won't matter the brand because in racing any chain will be beat to Sh** in no time and the Campy chain will just cost you more.
Also remember that it doesn't matter that your chain says Campy when you're shouldering your bike down the course because your RD just shattered.
