Max workable clincher tire pressure -packed grass.

I've got a small race on a relatively flat coarse with longish straights. The coarse is mostly short cut grass - then it was rolled with a 10,000 lb roller. A few wet sections, ground under the grass is firm but not hard.

I was thinking of bumping my tire pressures up. Any suggestions? I'm typically run in the 35-40 range. I'm switching to a file tread Ritchey Speedmax for tomorrow.

I'd keep with what's been working for you - not so much for the traction, but for soaking up the bumps - grass surfaces can have you bouncing all over the place if your pressures are too high.

depending on your weight, I would go higher.
lumpy and fast = pinch flats.
It's a good surface to run tubulars.

Well, that didn't work out at all. The fast, grass track was seriously compromised. Sections of the track were watered down the previous night causing very soft sections where the tires would sink into the soft earth. Mud on tires, then ride on grass had a snowball effect and the tires grew to twice their size in a couple laps. Had my clinchers set at 40 psi and felt real good for the first few laps.

Expect the unexpected.
