What shifters are these?

Nashbar has this GT GTR CX2 Cyclocross Bike listed for $652. It looks like a great deal on a beginner cross bike. I can't for the life of me figure out what shifters these are supposed to be. They look like a SRAM profile but are listed as "Shimano 9 Speed STI." Sora doesn't have the paddle and they don't look like 105/Tiagra... and probably wouldn't be at that pricepoint either.
I know I could just ask Nashbar for clarification but what fun would that be? http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...9&d=1322754836 http://media.nashbar.com/images/nash...2-NCL-SIDE.jpg Link to listing found here: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...2_10000_202339 |
They kind of look like the Dura Ace 7700 9-speed STI shifters to be honest.

Look like Sram to me. Like the old Rival when they were silver aluminum.

I couldn't handle it... asked Nashbar. This only serves to deepen the mystery for me. The guy assisting me said they were Shimano non-series shifters, roughly equivalent to Tiagra.
So I did a little looking and yes, there are Shimano 9 speed non-series shifters with the double paddle set. They do not however look like these... they look just like Tiagra shifters. If I was going to spend $650 on a bike I would probably go with the steel one Nashbar is currently selling that has been discussed here before. This one definitely looks to give those looking for decent aluminum cross bike at a low price another option. Looks like the cables are routed internally too. |
Microshift is cheaper than Shimano Or SRAM, so for the lowest cost bottom line
that has to be a possibility |
You can read where it says Sram on the hood. I am willing to bet that they are not what you would get on the bike if you ordered it.

The photo is of first gen Rival.
