Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Chatter/Judder When Braking

I recently got a new-to-me 2010 Trek X02. Stock brakes and (carbon fiber) fork, upgraded (carbon fiber) stem and bars.
Under moderate to hard braking, I'll get moderate to severe brake judder. I'm not an expert on set-up and tuning of canti brakes. My San Jose does not display any brake judder.

I think the XO2 has holes in the fork crown? Crown-mounted cable hanger would almost certainly improve your situation.

I had severe judder on my TRP brake set-up. The first thing I did was toe the front of the brakes in and the judder went away. Not sure what brand of brakes you have, but that's a starting poing. I used a 1mm spacer at the rear of the brake pad to set the toe -in and that seemed to work.

I have an X02 but with a Alpha Q full carbon fork; it has no hole for a hanger. I used a deep-drop hanger off the stem and have no judder at all.

cable is like a bow string, if the fork acts like a Bow ,
flexing between the 2 points of the cable fitting , things can act strangely.
fork comfort is flexibility..
the fork mount shortens up the distance to have a stiffer Bow,

In addition, the longer your headtube is, the worse it is.
The fork crown housing stops I know about:

Don't fall for the CAH59 on Sheldon's site- a barrel adjuster is really a key thing to have on a 'cross bike with drop bars and aero levers.
