CX bikes I can run SS or geared?
I'm in the market for a new frameset or bike and I'd like to be able to run SS for 'cross racing or with gears for gravel grinders. I'd like an aluminum frame and I hate chain tensioners. Does anyone make a bike with Karate Monkey-style dropouts (trackends with a der. hanger) or something similar to Salsa's Chili con Crosso alternator dropouts? (I don't want a Salsa)

You can take any geared frame with a BB30 or PF30 bottom bracket and convert it to SS with one of these https://beercomponents.com/ and it won't stop you from adding gears if you want. They are US designed and produced if that matters to you.

Thanks, Cynikal. I had also thought about building up a wheel for my current frame (Trek X01) with a White Industries Eccentric ENO hub but it's nice to know that option is out there for BB30 frames.

Scroll through the web site, there are several pro's who use them. They are made by a friend of mine who built the for CX and MTB.

If there is the chain tension sorted out, you can swap out a 135 wide single speed hub
and substitute a Rohloff. even if a disc brake frame
[just no 140 discs are made for the 4 bolt pattern]
Rohloff is a whole MTB drive train range.. in a light oil environment..

Salsa Chili Con Crosso has swappable dropouts for geared or SS. Very light, stiff, race-ready frameset. I absolutely love mine. Hurry though if you want one, as this model isn't coming back next year (so says the rumors).
Edit: didn't see that you don't want a Salsa. Can't think of anything else out there that meets your requirements of aluminum without going custom.

Thanks FKM. The only thing I don't like about the Salsa is the graphics, but maybe I'll get over my vanity because they seem like great bikes.
