    Main differences between the Tricross and Crux?

    Just wondering if someone could explain to me the big differences between the Specialized Tricross and Crux?

    Why would someone want one over the other? I'm thinking of adding a nice bike to my stable for commuting that can also handle light trails and pulling a 18 month old in a bike carrier.

    I have a Specialized Sirrus that is great but the wife is going to inherit it as we need another bike between the two of us for casual riding but I will also use it for commuting to work on occasion (its only about a 10km commute one way)

    I'm also thinking about the Cannondale CAADX

    Tricross is a commuter. Crux is a race bike.

    This is it, though that's partly marketing. I notice that Specialized doesn't even have the TriCross listed as a cyclocross bike anymore.

    The Crux is made with lighter aluminum (or carbon) and generally is spec'd with higher end parts (and costs more). The TriCross is also a little more upright.

    Marketing decided that they needed a new bike for marketing. The Tricross' have been raced by pro and amateurs alike for a few years now. I have a sworks Tricrss carbon and love the bike and will continue to race it. I also commute on it and do light duty trail riding.

    Crux chainstay length is 425mm, just right for CX. Tricross chainstay length is 440mm, about right for a touring bike that carries panniers and never needs to corner.

    I'm leaning towards the Tricross now for my needs. Quite interested in seeing what the all Steel model looks like when the specs are finally released.

    TriCross used to be just a type of knobby tire tread pattern for cross riding..
    made for Specialized .

    were really sketchy traction on wet pavement, though..
    wouldn't want to corner on them.

    wheel slipped turning on a sidewalk, myself.. 20+ years ago..
