2012 Trek Ion Pro vs 2011 Trek XO-2
I've narrowed down my search to two used cross bikes. They both appear to be in the same condition, slightly used, but no major signs of wear. The both have Sram Rival components, both have Trek's Alpha Aluminum frame. This would be a second bike for gravel and dirt riding. I might use for a little on the road but I already have a 3.1 Madone for that. Not planning on using this as bike for racing cross, but just looking for something a little more ''rugged'' than my Madone.
Any thoughts/suggestions. All are appreciated. Thanks! |
Probably a coin toss, they both your optimum frame size? look at the frame/fork clearance
for a bigger tire capacity. |
Yes, they're both the same size. I'll check the clearance specs on each.

These are not local buys and there to look at?
Like, Old shop stock, you can just go look at them , then. the standard Online spec lists rarely bother with that data. Cyclocross and touring are around 32 ~37 mm tires. as a general trend. maybe you need a 29er instead ,they are designed around fat 2" 700c tires |
These are both local, but I was trying to save a trip. I'm not interested in a 29er because I want to keep the drop bars, and not sacrifice too much speed from my road bike. I've also found a Cannondale SuperX which has a carbon frame for about the same price. Not sure if there's a huge advantage to a carbon frame on a cross bike, but that's now in the running too. Thanks for the continued suggestions.

New Trek CrossRip.

I won't be racing it, so I'm trying to decide which is better.

"Better" is an Un described collection of criteria of your own choices , good luck ..
maybe something of steel Like an LHT or Trek 520. something practical you can put racks and mudguards on. IE not a Race style Cyclocross Bike at all. Go take test-rides at your Favorite Bike Shop. |
