Looking for new bike, found a store that would build a 2011 Felt F15x, worth it?

For background, I am currently in the market for a new cyclocross bike, I have a 2006 Kona Jake and I love it, but want to turn it into a pure commuter and get something for workouts/longer rides (I think about doing a race but probably doubtful). Right now the Jake does both. I am in the $1500-$1800 price range (though a bit flexible, and open to used) and I am looking for a deal and also and upgrade from my current bike.

In my search I found a shop that has a 2011 Felt F15x in stock and could build it up for me for my price range (depending on what I choose). Does it make sense to go this route?

My requirements are really upgraded frame (somewhat), fork, components (have Shimano Soras now), and though I am interested by disc brakes, they are not required. Was looking at the Felt F65x (wonder with the 2014 available if I can find a deal on 2013), but open to suggestions. Also recommendations of places that might have a good used bike (aside from craigslist) or previous years models in the Chicago area would be appreciated.

I got a good deal on a 2012 F55X in a nearby LBS (village cyclesport in Elk Grove Village) this winter. Look around. If you are willing to wait you might find a good sale deal, but may not until next fall/winter.

That looks like a good frame if it is the right size for you.

Buddy got a full Carbon bike .. if low weight is your goal? $/# was about 350 a pound.

First off, is the F15x the right size?

I have a f75x in a 57. I'm 6'0 and its a shade too big for me.

Yes it is the right size for me, I am also 6'0 and they would build up a 55.

Edit: Add quote.

I am not very concerned about weight, obviously light would be good but I know that as you go down in weight you can spend a fortune to save a few grams. I am mostly concerned with getting a nicer bike to take on longer rides and for workouts, with the option to race if I ever want to, with this I can turn my current bike into a pure commuter and throw a rack and fenders on it without concern when I go out just for a ride I won't have this extra weight.

I am thinking maybe just blow out my budget a bit and go for something that is a real upgrade (carbon frame) and has all the things I want but don't need (internal cable routing, disc brakes). I test rode a Foundry Auger today and really liked it, a decent price too.
