I'm pretty new here, but wanted to share my commuter/grinder as well. It's a 1988 Trek 7.2fx workhorse, with a few extras that include a Brooks saddle with suspension post, RAM mount for my Garmin GPS, Richie adjustable stem (which gave me the fit I was looking for), a trailer hitch, and of course the bag mounts. It's an aluminum frame with a steel fork, which works pretty well on Missouri's Katy and MKT trails.
I'm not a big suspension fan overall, but it has made breaking in the Brooks just a little nicer on the bumpy terrain. The Pletscher dual kickstand is the latest addition, and I'm absolutely loving it. Any bike cabal members from G+ might recognize the proud zombie raccoon on the seat tube.
I'd love to upgrade the drivetrain and wheels, but unless I come across a used 7.5fx for a bargain I'll probably save those bucks for a nicer quality CX.
