Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I switched to Soma Oxford bars and thumbshifters. No more down tube shifting!

Just did the D2R2 115k (actually, the 135k due to a slight detour) on my Soma Double Cross. Gearing and tires were perfect for this year's version. Spent a fair amount of time in the 26x32 combo and had a blast.

I don't know about those old Spinergy Spox for a gravel or CX bike. I can just see one tacoing after hitting a big pothole or landing a bunnyhop.

My gravel riding is on Rails-Trails, and I haven't bunnyhopped, other than a RR crossing, in 45 years.
Once off a loading dock was enough.
The banana bike did not survive.

I also have extra spokes and nipples. If I prang the wheels too much, I'll swap 'em out.
They just look silly on my other bikes. Besides, what other spoke can you fold into a wedge bag?

17.02 lb gravel bike.

Douglas Vector from CL. Sold the DA7700 group. Put the VeloMax wheels on an Ironman.
SRAM 1x10, 44t narrow-wide Race Face/X.7 RD. Spox wheels, 700x27's. Spare parts build.
Had to swap some parts from my bin to someone else's to finish it up. Works fine.

I didn't like the shifting or noise at first, then I bought an SRAM chain and kept all the links. Much, much better.
I'm going to see if I can get some 30's on there with a bit of side tread.

Here's my freshly assembled Nashbar cross bike

Just put this together Saturday. Took it for it's maiden voyage same day, 20.5 miles in 102 degree SoCal heat (nearly getting heat stroke in the process, lol). Assembled it with the Nashbar carbon cross fork and Bontrager Race 29" wheel set from my old 'Frankenbike'. I'm running Avid bb5 disc's, Truvativ Stylo cranks Club Roost Cross Terra tires, (700 x 35c). Some old Nashbar pedals circa (1996). XT front/LX rear derailleurs, Nashbar compact road bars, Race Face stem/seatpost. Spoon Charge saddle. Tektro RL520 brake levers, Sunrace thunb shifters.. Total weight before removing frame canti studs is 23 lbs even. It is very responsive to pedal input as well as steering input. very pleased so far!

Still working and tweaking this 1992 Trek 950. The 26 x 2.0 tires (schwalbe marathon supreme touring) work well on gravel. The bike is just a blast to ride. I'm not totally in love with the bars and ends though; I'm thinking about picking up the Velo Orange crazy bar to complete the build:

Two seasons now on the 2014 Salsa Vaya 3. Changed the saddle to an "apple green" Brooks B17, more a vanity thing and I got the saddle new for $125CDN tax in.
The tires that came on the bike, Schwalbe Silentos 40mm were prone to flats on limestone chip trails and I replaced them with narrower Maxxis "Overdrive"s 38mm and find them lighter, better on the road and no punctures so far. Overall very happy with the Salsa.
