Brand Presence at Pro Events
OK i know i shouldn't care about which Brand sponsored more winning Athletes last season or whatever, but the reality is that there are a lot of bikes out there to choose from - simply too many - and i need to narrow it down. Also i see nothing wrong with financially supporting a brand that in turn uses that money to support the sport by sponsoring events and athletes.
So i was doing a lot of reading over the past few days and a list of contenders is starting to emerge. In my order of preference:
1 - Trek Crockett // almost certainly won't be able to actually track one down in stock because it's too new
2 - Trek Ion CX // also questionable if i will be able to get because apparently discontinued
3 - Specialized Crux // the styling is too ostentatious for my taste
4 - Cannondale CAADX // good, but there is something old-school about Cannondale and i'm not really into old-school.
5 - Kona Jake // wonder if i will be able to find one since it's a smaller brand, also i am nervous buying smaller brands in general
i may be able to add others to the list, but that's it so far ...
So what brands have the biggest presence at Cross races ? Sorry i don't really watch sports, of any kind. Never watched a single game in any sport from beginning to end in my life. The only kind of races i have actually watched were 100M dash and 100M to 200M swim races ( i swim ). I simply don't see the point of watching other people have a good time - i would rather go to the pool myself or get on the bike myself.
But i want to know which bike brands care enough about CX to build up a presence in it.
I know up until some point Trek was missing in action, but that has obviously changed.
???
PS: i will be trying to save money by getting a 2012 or floor model or something like that - in other words i will try to pick the bike up for well under MSRP if possible. i'm not just going to walk in to a store and say i want such and such and i don't care how much it costs LOL.
i will also be trying to get Shimano 105 / Avid BB5 setup if possible or something close to that. i decided that for my needs disc brakes are not a must. i would still like to get them, but not at the expense of getting a poor frame or a lousy deal.
i want a stiff aluminum frame, with race geometry and good handling, and combined with decent shifters and brakes ( Shimano 105 / Avid BB5 or equivalent ) i want it all for under $1,500 hehe ... no but i'm serious though.
