2013 Trek Cronus CX Pro - 56cm
I have been wanting to buy this bike for some time but I have been hoping to pick one up for a good price. It turns that I have a chance to do so however the bike is 56cm. I could save 1/3 off the retail price for this bike. $800 or more is a huge discount. I am 5'10" and the last time I was at an LBS they suggested a 54cm if I was going to buy one. I am going to be doing long distance, dirt, limestone and asphalt roads. I will not be carrying the bike or jumping on and off the bike. Should I consider the 56cm or is it just simply to big for me?

At 5'10" a 56cm could be correct, but it's impossible to provide an informed opinion over the internet without a huge amount of detailed information.
Do you have a drop-bar road bike now? What model and size?

I'm 5'10" and I have a 56cm which I race. The fit is really good. I could go with a 54cm just as well which would make the bike a bit quicker in tight turns. If you're going to ride distance then the 56cm will work fine.

might be fine , not really Racing Cross with it.. might really not even need to go that far up the price point.
CrossRips are around $1K but you may favor posher Kit..
assuming that you dont have short legs and a tall torso, of course..
5'10" is a total .
LBS sells Trek , never seen those, just not enough well off
software writers live here with that kind of Dosh.

Went in a different direction. Just picked up a 2014 Ridley X-fire with Ultegra components and disc brakes for a tad over 2k out the door. Price was too good to pass up. The bike has everything I wanted hopefully its a good for what I will be doing.

I like this bike; there is a 54 cm at my local shop that I've eyeballed a few times but can't quite convince myself to pull the trigger. Aluminum frame, carbon fork, plus tires, and decent shimano shifting is hard to beat; that's a lot of bike for a decent price. I've been faithful to steel bikes for a long time but I think my aluminum frame/carbon fork/shimano fuji cross is one of the nicest riding bikes I've owned.
