Post Season Price Cut Suggestions

A couple of shops I frequent are pushing big discounts on 2013/2014 model cyclocross bikes now that the season is over. Assuming a 20-30% price cut, that means the $1000-2500 I'm willing to spend could buy a $1500-4000 bike. Obviously, I'll be riding a few bikes in the next week or two, but what are your thoughts on bikes worth considering in this price range? FWIW, I prefer Shimano to SRAM, and my road bike is a Giant Defy.

I'm toying with the idea of trying cyclocross next season, and in the meantime, the bike would serve as a backup road bike, gravel grinder, and light duty off road bike.

FWIW, one of the specific bikes I'm considering is a Cannondale SuperX.

I would check what your local dealers can get. My favorite shop carries Trek, and cannondale so I was strongly considering the CAADX and trek Crockett. I'm sure I would love a SuperX or trek Boone, but didnt want to spend that much since I will be using it mainly as a commuter. I also was considering the Gialt TCX SLR.

I am in a similar position. I am toying with the idea of cross racing next season.

I just ordered a Trek Crockett frame to be my commuter/backup road bike/light duty off road bike. I should get it this weekend or early next week.

If you don't mind ordering online Competitive cyclist has some good deals on Ridley's.

No clue as to what brands are in bike shops where you live, of course.

<generic>at the same price bikes are more similar than differert across brands ..
75% of the bike is the parts pick .

so compare the parts . No brand gets freebies from SRAM or Shimano

FWIW, I have access to excellent LBSs in Cape and STL offering all the major brands and good support. Giant, Trek, Cannondale, Specialized, et al are all well represented, as are many of the smaller brands. I'd like to find a bike with an Ultegra setup, but I'm fairly clueless on wheels.
