The full title is "Recreational Cyclocross and Gravelbiking"

In 2013 the Cyclocross Racing forum was added to the Racer's Constellation of forum, see: http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdispl...-Racer-s-Forum . This forum is for members who train and participate in Cyclocross racing. This meant that Cyclocross bike users who don't race now have this forum to discuss the bikes and the types of cycling that are possible with a Cyclocross bike.

There have also been a number of gravel bike threads appearing in several of the forums. With the new title, those threads have a place. Clearly this topic will be popular, this thread went to 4 pages in less than a week: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ng-mega-thread! Since Gravel road cycling is becoming a popular form of cycling, the name of this forum was updated.

Recreational cyclocross isn't a bad description of my racing style.

I'm not sure why they don't just ditch "Cyclocross" from the forum title completely. That way it would be much more clear that Cyclocross threads belong in the Cyclocross Racing forum, and all the GG stuff belongs here.

Gravel grinding a hip new category . for selling the "cross" bike to. it's a marketing niche.

so many of the posters were commuting and such , anyhow. just wanted fat tire road bike combinations.

Racks and all those practicalities. .. drop bar hybrid , essentially ..

I don't get why we keep balkanizing what is really just going for a bike ride.

sure, some of the twits in the Road forum are just over T'd nut bars, if it isn't carbon, with power meters, and 23c tires with the stem dragging the front wheel it isn't really riding, but for the rest of us that have a real view of the world and just ride our bikes ...

the perfect ride is one that has regular road tires and wheels and isn't afraid to go anywhere on any surface ... And yet here we are stuck in a forgotten corner.

    seems sad.

This sounds like fighting words to me! Are you saying the CX racers can't tell the difference between the racing forum and this forum? So we have to have the "Recreational" label put on this forum? I'd much rather be alined as a "Cyclocross and Gravelbiking" biker. BTW, you do know that "Gravelbiking" is suppose to be "Gravel biking" right?

There's certainly no way your judgmental screed against people who like to ride racing-style road bikes is contributing to this "balkanization," though.

I would argue that there's no such thing as "recreational cyclocross" in the literal sense. Cyclocross courses are generally impermanent, at least in the U.S., so very few people ride them outside of a race. But for getting across that it's forum for people who want to talk about cyclocross bicycles in a context other than racing them, I think it gets the point across.

And I'm just glad that they didn't go with "gravel grinding."

Balkanization - applied to bike stratification. That's good, I'll have to remember that one.

I would have preferred mixed terrain riding, seems to cover any time of dirt and road.

Please get rid of "Recreational". Or rename it as "Cyclocross and Recreational Gravelbiking."

I think it's an appropriately named category and here's why.

    A. I want to get into cyclocross, I think.... who knows. I'm starting to build a bike?

    B. I definitely ride trails and gravel. I'm in Kansas City.

    C. If I hate cyclocross, and I've built a bike that may be suitable to both, then I'm not out all my money.

    D. Don't call it recreational to those serious gravel grinders. There's a lot of them up in Nebraska and over in Kansas.

"Accidental Cyclocross" may better describe my riding, and the road conditions around here... but I can live with "Recreational..."

Can I just say, "Who cares?"

The forum title is a label that helps you find your way here. Now that you have, you can make a simple mental association between whatever the title is and this cyber-location. It's just a place holder. They could call it "banana egg fish" and it should only confuse you the first time through. Personally, I found my way here after the name change just based on the persistent location in the list. That is, I clicked the link below "Commuting".

The lack of a space between "gravel" and "biking" is bothering me though.

So no voting on the naming or anything? I can't feel thinking we're slotted in between Recreational & Family and the Advocacy & Safety forums. How am I suppose to cultivate my badboy image?

Can we have a "Cyclocross and Gravel biking" voting option?

Why do I feel like we're going to Disneyland............

Try racing singlespeed. You'll feel better about yourself immediately. Repeat as necessary.

One of the local series here has a fixie category. There were a couple of times this year that only one person did it. I'm hoping they don't give up on it because I just got a flip flop wheelset for my SSCX bike and this could be my only shot at a podium finish.
