Advice on Cross bike model to choose.
Im trying to help my father buy a new bike, and looking for any advice i can pass on to him, so he can get the propper bike. I know my roadbikes, but i have no expirence with Crossbikes or suspension systems, so need all the help i can get.
The bike we are looking for is to be used for cycling year round, on dirtroads and forest trails. Its not ment for propper offroad or gravelbiking.
My father is 185cm high and weight around 140 kg. so the cycle must be strong enough to hold his weight and dont break down under it.
Budget we are looking to spend is around 1500 USD.
Key words in this search are.
- Easy to maintain.
I had a look at the models mainly couse i can get em at local dealers.
- Merida Crossway 300.
- Specialized Crosstrail
- Specialized Crossover
Any advice would be helpfull.
Are you looking at new?
i started my search at the local bike shop. Small town one man business. Learned a lot but not a lot of inventory. I went to two more shops with more inventory to jump on and try. Found what I liked and then I went back to the LBS and told him about what I had zero'd in on. This was much different than when I first left his store. He ordered in a bike to try comparable to what I liked at the previous store and I bought it.
Can you extend your range of dealers to see if you can find other brands: Surly, Salsa, Kona (all three make great bikes for this type of riding), and there are many others. He may not need a cross bike per say, but more of a road bike that is beefy, with ample clearance for wider tires, so that he can enjoy the dirtier stuff.
What can you walk into your favorite Bike Shop and test ride? do that first .
I think Merida is also making the bikes sold as Specialized. Contract Manufacturing..
Taiwan is the Bike maker to the world.
Bianchi San Jose.
I miss mine. Fantastic single speed CX bike. Light and fast.
