    How Much Does Your Cross Bike Weigh?

    I just weighed my bike and it came in at 24.4 lbs . I guess my 40c tires made it a lot heavier.

    Anyways I'm just curious what cross bikes weigh on BF. If you made your bike lighter please state what you did to shave weight.

    Might be better if you expand the range (on the lower end) so that you can give more ranges on the upper end (other than >20)...maybe <17, 17-19, 20-22, 23-25, >25

    Can I vote more than once? My disc-equipped commuter CX bike weighs around 24-25 pounds. The two that I use for racing are both between 18 and 19 pounds. I could get the SSCX under 18 if I really wanted to.

    In race mode (light tubulars and cages removed) my steel poprad with a carbon fork is 18.5 lbs. In everyday mode, probably closer to 21 lbs.

    I've got two CX bikes: My commuter is a Raleigh RX 1.0 w/ Mavic Aksiums that weighs in at an even 21lbs w/ lights. My fancy carbon CX bike (Felt F1X Canti, Ultegra Di2, Stans 340s) is 17.25lbs. I could go lower but I ran out of $$.

    Living on a 4th floor walk-up tends to put weight at the forefront of ones mind.

    My Soma double cross is @20# and my Ritchey (with race wheels) is about 18.5#. Not bad considering both are steel frames.

    I forgot my single speed. Alu Sycip with carbon fork in race mode is 17lbs.

    The race bike is a hair over 20lb in racing trim. My race wheels are 32-spoke tubulars, so there could be some serious weight lost there if I ever move to something lighter.

    My Carbon Giant TCX with 105 weighs 19.25lbs. I think what is keeping the weight high is the 105 5600 group, aksium wheel set, and my bar and stem which is not carbon. Also have clement las tires. I bought the frame used and put on the parts from my road bike which I upgraded to ultegra this year. In addition the previous owner of this frame glued some rubber to the frame around the drive train for protection i guess so i left it on for fear of damaging the paint trying to remove it.

    That steel monstercross sounds awesome! pics? How's the climbing on that?

    I think what's emerging in the poll results is two distinct groupings: (1) race bikes weighing 18-19 pounds, (2) all-arounders weighing over 20 pounds. I'd guess most of the latter are over 23 pounds.

    Your bike isn't a race bike, so I'd say 24.4 pounds is pretty squarely in the middle of its class -- before you start adding accessories.

    I weighed my commuter this morning. With rack and fenders, but before I put on the trunk bag, it weighs 26.5 pounds:



    I've already replaced the stock alloy fork with a lighter aluminum fork. It's got a Tiagra drivetrain with a triple crank, TRP HY/RD brakes, SRAM X.9 hubs with Salsa Delgado Cross rims and 700x35 Schwalbe Marathon Supreme tires.

    If I wanted to make it light, I'd obviously start by removing the rack, fenders and bottle cages. Then I'd replace the wheels with something like a Stan's Iron Cross wheelset. Then I'd get lighter tires, maybe 700x28 Conti GP 4 Seasons. Then I'd replace the shifters with a set of Gevenalle (and probably get full hydraulic brakes in the process). Then I'd get a carbon compact double crankset and new front derailleur. After all this, it would probably be well under 20 pounds. It also wouldn't be particularly well suited to the purpose for which I use this bike. My wallet would also be around $1500 lighter.
