Bamboo monstercross build.

You may have seen a couple of shots of the frame build from my retain the chain thread, but here is some more from the frame build and on to the bike build.

The frame being replaced.

...and I couldn't resist throwing the bamboo (wrapped) fork in without headset so the angle is a bit crazy, but you get the jist of the final look.

Not a kit, but it was the build weekend at the bamboo bicycle club.
Thought about their home build kit, but decided it would be more fun and better to have Ian and James' experience and do the weekend with other people too.

Got the head set cups pressed in, had to take it to work and borrow a length of M16 threaded bar and some nuts etc.

also got the der' hanger tapped, M10x1 is not so common so again it was done with tools from work

Thanks Craig.

Rear drop outs polished (304 stainless), bit of car polish on top and they are good to go

New XT 11-34 cassette.

So on to finishing the frame.
A light sand with 800grit to the tubes to key them and it was on with the 4 coats of laquer.

Cable routing is now the focus.
Rear routings in place with cable ties (temporarily).

The front routing I tried a stop made of bamboo but it seemed to stick out too far and stuck out aesthetically like a sore rhombus when placed on the hemp joints, so I have used alloy flat bar to make a guide. It is glued on with 2 pack for now, it will get a hemp wrap next.

I wasn't happy with the alloy, it didn't look right and wrapping looked odd.
So back to the bamboo it is.

Thanks Justin

Cable stops for brakes and gear are now done.
had to ditch the inner chainring guard as it pushed the chain line out too far, moved the 44t ring to the inside and back to the short bolts.
Chain line is now straight in 5th sprocket.

Bar and levers positioned.

Tonight it will be time to take off the 5600 brifters and replace with the new 5700 ones with gear cable run under the bar tape.

Thanks guys!
I saw the short distance between nodes and crazy curves of the top tube and down tube and just had to use them!

You didn't happen to weigh the frame before building? Not trying to be a weenie, just curious.

It looks like something the Professor would build on Gilligan's Island. Awesome!
