Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Newbie Question about Kona Jake

Im looking for a new bike. Seems like a cyclo-cross is going to fit my needs, Road bike geometry, wider tires, tough enough for banging around the neighborhood, good ride for a century, fast enough for some sprint triathlons.

If you disagree please let me know. The problem is I can only go about $800. I also really want cheater brake bars (i think thats what their called, brake levers on the upper part of the handle.)

I can not find out anywhere if the Kona Jake has these. If so it looks like it would meet all my needs.

Any comments or thoughts are welcomed.

Dave

go for it - rode a JtS for 4 years before I got my new bike. Great bike although I'd het the wheels checked over by an experienced wheel builder after you've bought it. I had problems with spokes breaking until I replaced the rims. I changed the saddle as well but that's personal preference.

checked the kona web site - this is in the spec for the JtS
Extras - Tektro RX 2.0 add-on brake lever

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!
