    Vetta CX/gravel bike under construction...

    My custom CX/gravel racer frameset currently under construction at Cicli Vetta in Padua, Italy. Planned as a no-nonsense bike with the geometry of my Merlin Extralight, to tackle the gravel and dirt tracks I frequently ride on my roadbike but with the much needed bigger tires to smoothen the bumps and provide more traction in corners. No deep sand and mud so no need for more relax head- and seat angles or a higher bottom bracket. Tubing is Deda ZeroUno and I went for a neoretro look...

    I'm in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and I frequently ride my bike to the coastal area some 20 km from here. Used to have two true CX bikes but they were "overkill" for the unpaved trails in the woods and dunes, but my Merlin and Bianchi roadbikes take 25mm tires max which is not enough to smoothen the bumps and provide traction in corners. I also plan on using this bike for some weekends away with light luggage

    Yes, I like a high quality road tire that is about 30 to 34mm wide. I also like a sports bikes, like the one you are building. What tires are considering?

    Almost done. Temporarily on 25mm tires until the ordered 34mm Challenge Grifo XS have arrived, and I ordered tougher black aluminium Elité Ciussi bottleholders instead of the planned Inox version. I'm still undecided about the chainguid: Problem Solvers Chainspy or Paul Chain Keeper.

    Looking good! Have you considered a wide/narrow chainring like the Raceface or Wolftooth Components offerings? With that, you may find you can get by without a chain guide (and keep that nice clean look). I had pretty good luck running my CX bike with a wide/narrow and standard road RD. Later in the season I hit some really rough courses and had to switch to a clutch type RD, but for the kind of trail you showed in the photo, I doubt you'd have much problem with chain drop.

    I did consider that, but with all my bikes being "tutto Campagnolo" Record and Chorus 10sp with 135 BCD chainrings that option is more or less out of the question unless I modify a chainring. But I'm an absolute DIY-disaster.That said, the two mentioned chainguards are quite clean.

    Great bike!!!

    I run Campy off road as well.

    I used the Paul last summer when we were riding more single track up at the cabin and it worked great.

    I have since switched back to a double, but wouldn't hesitate to use the Paul again.

    Thanks for the feedback! I'm leaning towards the Paul too, but the one from Problem Solvers isn't much different and half the price...

    Yes, you'll likely be fine with either one.

    I use a lot of Paul products on my bikes though and I've yet to be disappointed.

    I'm currently building a Della Santa and I even ordered the Paul skewers.

    The skewers from Velo Orange would have worked at 1/5th of the price, but I wanted to try the Pauls.

    I tossed extra $$$ at it just to try them first hand. Only you can decide if the extra cost is worth it for you.

    No cassette because I'm waiting for a spacer to keep the cassette off the spokes and I ordered a Paul chain keeper. But the tires have arrived so the build is otherwise completed...
