Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Gravelgrinding with no gravel to be seen ?

Had a long nice solitary ride on forrest roads today (on a fatbike). Only change from my summer time rides is all this white stuff that is covering up the gravel. Does this still count as gravelgrinding ?

Absolutely; I like the white stuff too but lately it's been in short supply in the midwest. I'm OK with that.

Count for what? I don't believe it's a competition, but I'm usually not in the know anyways so maybe I'm wrong.

Fatbike seems like an awesome gravel/dirt road bike.

I wouldn't worry about it -- the experience is very similar.

Ok, so two days ago it snowed 6" here in the Twin Cities.

Grabbed the Mukluk and did 21 miles along the Mississippi river near our house.

Here are some pics to liven up the thread.

I'm heading out on my Merckx in a few minutes on the same route. Colder than a dickens here today though. It's three big degrees here right now, so we'll see how long I last.

To gravel and be a graveler is purely a state of mind. As long as you believe you are graveling all is good. Ride Strong.

@gomango - Looks like there is some packed down snow on that trail, but how does "snow" miles compare to gravel or pavement? 2:1 ratio? 3:1?

"Looks like Minnesota. "
Probably why so many Norwegians settled there (Love your Merckx!)

I would guess I use 30-40 % longer on my rides compared to summer as long as the snow is fairly packed.

Nah, it's only the people who live there who look like minnesotans.

No biggie if it's a packed trail.

We have a cabin up on the Canadian border and the snow there can be a pain.

We rode up there last week in fresh powder across our lake. It was a 17 mile ride each way.

It felt like an all day loaded ride on my touring bike.

The Merckx has been a fun surprise. Not very expensive and super reliable.

We still have relatives on my Grandma's side in Bergen.
