How to size my Giant CX bike

I ride 54" frame on road and started checking frame sizes to compare and my 54" stands only 1 cm shorter than Giant Small
Should I buy Small or should I look at XSmall
Med are 52.5" and they stand as tall as my 54" frame
Based on my size Giant book calls for MAX small for me but they say CX bike should be one size smaller so I almost should look at Xsmall
my legs are 31" and I'm 5'8"

If it helps, I just got a Giant cx bike and...I am 5'10" with a 32 inch inseam and normally ride a 56cm road bike. I recently got a Medium Giant cx bike. I would say it fits me well, and I may be able to go to a ML. I wouldn't go too small or exaggerate the need to "some down". This was shared with me, as well, as I lasted for advice on here.
Best of luck.
Enjoy!
