I'm trying to decide which road bike to purchase. I have a Cannondale MTB but I would like a road type to ride on roads, paved bike paths and the NYC 5 boros tour. I also enjoy riding the carriage paths in Acadia Nat'l Park and the Cannondale seems like over-kill there. The 7500FX has better componets but I seem to prefer the drop bars. Will I have real problems taking 1000C on bike paths etc. What wins out better componets or prefered bars?

The 1000c will be fine on bike paths. I read in these forums that some people haven't had a problem with gravel on the 1000. That has narrower tires than the 1000c. Deep gravel, no, but gravel, just fine.
My own experience with narrower tires on bike paths has been good.
I'm looking at wider tires like on the 7500fx because I need to ride on unpaved shoulders quite often. If I didn't, I'd ride the 1000c or 1000

I have a 1000 that i use for riding on bike paths and doing some short (20 mile) rides around the area on roads. I like it a lot and think that its very comfortable and haven't had any problems with it. I dont think it will work to well on carriage paths though. Something with wider tires like the FX would be better for that.
