Anyone know about Nakamura?

Hi! I just saw a Nakamura Royal in my local sport store. It is a hybrid bike that cost 499$CDN. I use to ride a very old moutain bike (dated 1992!) and decided I would like to upgrade to come to work by bike. I don't look for performance; I just want something nicier and smoother to ride.

I tried to look for information on this brand on the internet and nada. Does anyone know about Nakamura? Is it worth? Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

It is Sports Expert store brand name. It is a generic far east made bike no better or worse than any other make for that price. A real bicycle shop will have similar priced and quality bikes, but will give you better fitting and after sales adjustment of the brakes and gear shifters.

Nakamura review

I purchased this bike about 1.5 months ago. I was in the shop a month later b/c the gears were skipping every time I went over a bump or uphill, which was not only aggravating but dangerous. So they "fixed" it at no cost. Recently I had to apply the brakes to avoid a car that wasn't looking where they were going, and the front brake collapse onto itself. I got it home ok and had to disassemble said front brake and discovered the metal spring broke a piece off (I imagine this metal spring puts tension on the brake mechanism so your brake pads don't rub), so now I have a pretty new bike with no front brake. I think this bike is economical, yet you get what you pay for. Lesson learned. It is made with low grade materials....

Pretty low end for a bike and overpriced at the store you visited

If you google on the name, this comes up with a price of $233.99 US$. It is very low end. Nakamura Royal - Equipment - Bike - Hybrid bikes | Sports Experts If you add currency conversion and VAT, I would be surprised if it added up to $500 CDN$. One thing that comes to mind is what does it weigh? When you buy a bike in this price range it often has virtually useless suspension that adds weight to what you have to pedal. You are much better off looking for a similarly priced bike with NO suspension so the manufacturer can put a little more money into better components for the drive train and maybe lighter wheels. The brakes and drive train on this bike are the lowest of the low. Here's a Canadian seller with a price of $223.99 which I assume is in CDN because the site is located in your country.
