    Kona Vs. Huffy? Need Oppinions

    Hey Everyone!

I'm looking to buy an occasional bike, I used to have a TREK (now it's in parts...has been for 5 years...my better half took it apart and never rebuilt!) so I'd like to buy an inexpensive bike that will be of good use to me. I'm 5ft 5 . My ambition is to ride with my husband and 3 kids (5, 3 and 1) pull them with our dunlop chariot, sometimes have one ride in the carrier, and sometimes the two older ride their own bikes.

I used to ride everyday!...I'm aching to get back on and I've found two bikes I know nothing about!

I'd like some imput...they are both selling for 50$ so it's really a matter of which is best deal!

    KONA Stinky

    HUFFY Terra Zone

Normally I'd pick a Kona over a Huffy without a thought, but in this case, I don't think you'd like that Kona - go with the Huffy or, better yet, keep looking. Before buying anything, take a look at the bike, make sure it fits you well, take it for a test ride.

Hard choice. Huffy's have always had a poor reputation and for good reason. Although they did try to spruce up the image for the 80(?) Olympics by sponsoring the funnybikes for the timetrials and track riding. It did not work out too well.

From the picture, the Huffy looks like typical department store quality. Very cheap components and frame. However it looks to be in decent condition.

Kona on the other hand can put out some decent bikes. This particular model retails at $1600 (http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/2003_ful..._121199.shtml). The problem is that if someone were offering this bike for $50, something is very likely terribly wrong (bent, cracked or broken frame, suspension gone, components bent and unservicable, etc). I would expect it to be available in decent used condition for ~$900. Another problem is that this is way more bike than you need . There is another thread going about a lady looking to buy a comfort bike and whether suspension is worth it or not. Many people think that unless you are riding technical trails, suspension is not necessary. They would rather put the money into better components than the suspension.

If I had to vote, get the Kona if it is in good shape. If you don't like it, turn around and sell it for a few hundred and get a bike you do like.

If you really just want something to ride, get the Huffy but remember that it will be a throwaway bike. And for $50, it really is.

If you liked your old Trek, consider gathering up the parts and taking it to a bike shop that will put it back together for you. You would not only be cleaning up some of the junk we all have around our abodes but you may likely have a better bike than the Huffy. Any idea what model Trek it is? I wish I could give you a price estimate to do this. If I lived close by I would probably help you figure out if the Trek is salvageable. Probably even put together what I could. C'est la vie.

Get a new man, then let him put the trek back together.

Don't listen to this guy, he likes to troll by pretending Wal Mart bikes are somehow comparable to ones from reputable companies, like Kona. A Kona Stinky for $50? Jump on it, unless you're certain the guy they stole it from will find you, and if you don't like it, sell it for a lot more than that and buy one you do like. You do realize the MSRP for a new one is $1599, right? Sure does blow any Huffy ever made out of the water.

Hi, I don't know why those two bikes would have the same price but I have the same Huffy Terrazone that I like 7 years ago. Mine is a 10 speed though. The bike weight in at 35lbs so not exactly light. Actually that's really heavy for what it is. Amazingly, I put almost 2000 miles on it and still do 10-15 miles ride around the neighborhood. The shifting is rediculously bad after like the first year. Now, only 4 gears will definitely go in, the rest is a blur. So yeah, it an ok bike if you use it just to chase kid around. BTW, I saw one on ebay sold for like 5 bucks.
