Geek level reality check

Your opinion please...
we are packing for a trip to Hawaii; leaving tomorrow. I've packed my helmet as I plan to borrow my sis-in-law's MTB for some recreational/scenic cycling on the island.

Here's the geek factor: should I take my shoes and pedals. It is a quick install, but do I really want to do that or just put up with her toe clips??? What do you think?

Take the shoes and pedals if you can find the room in your bags.

Take them. You'll feel much more comfortable much quicker.

Don't forget the seatpost while you're at it.

In all seriousness, I always forget something when I'm packing so... other things you might want to remember to bring along: gloves (if you wear them), sunglasses, socks (if you're so inclined), jersey and shorts (depending on the kind of riding you expect to be doing or if you even normally wear them) and (since you're bringing your shoes), cleat covers if you you have "those kind of shoes".

No sense in bringing the seatpost unless he knows for sure it will fit the loaner bike.

thanks for all the helpful hints. I have packed: helmet, shorts, jersey, socks, shoes and pedals...and...oopS! forgot the gloves! Luckily, I've read the post before leaving. and there is still room in my bag for those, too! (I'm trying to travel light-with the exception of the bike stuff, of course).

I'll try to remember to post pix when I get back. Or, If I'm really clever, then I'll post while I'm there. fancy eh? Liz

OK...day 3 in Hawaii (on Oahu)....been doing a lot of sight seeing, but very little folks out bike riding. I get to borrow my sis-in-law's Specialized Rockhopper whenever I want...maybe tomorrow? thanks for the suggestions! I have everything I need to 'make the bike like my own'.

Funny thing, while driving around, I notice LOTS of bike lanes, but not a whole lot of riders. the riders I do see are riding around in 'slippers' (flip flops to you and me). one out of every five riders has a helmet. I'll post pix when I get home. Cheers! Liz
