Trip to San Diego
Hi!!
We are now in SD from Denver. Rode our bikes in Colorado Sity, CO, the Painted Desert and Grants New Mexico. Loved riding inthe Painted Desert National Park. Then rode through and around the mountain town Pine Valley - 95 F - just a bit warm
Today we rode through Oceanside and Carlsbad.
We will be meeting (hopefully) JohnE of this forum for dinner tonight. We hope to go riding today.
Cloudy at the beach yesterday - typical SD June Gloom weather.
Best to all. My motel limits calls to 30 minutes or they charge you $1 per minute extra, so best sign off

Enjoy the coast, Denver. Point Loma, to see gray Whales, Mission Beach for fun and games and, of course, Tijuana just south of SD. I'm not sure riding a bike down there is a good idea but then, I haven't been there since the early 50's. John E. should be a good source of info.

I envy you being in San Diego. It's a truly great cycling area.

Well, so far we have ridden Mission Bay (10 miles), and the infamous Torrey Pines Grade (I did fine, but Nora had to push a bit). This grade is so steep that my grandfather used to tell me they had to go up backwards with their Model T Fords. We also rode up to Oceanside and back.

Actually there are lots of places where Model T and A Fords had to go up backwards. They didn't have fuel pumps i.e. gravity feed. The gas tank was just in front of the driver in the cowling. At some point gas would no longer flow.

Anyway, we made it back. Today we stopped and did a bit of cyclking on the Glenwood Canyon Bike Trail which goes for about 18 miles along the Colorado River as it spews through this spectacular cnayon.
It parallels the freeway, which is noted internationally as a marvel of engineering and of having low impact on the sights and scenery. They had the foresight to build a biking path integral with the projest.
I forgot how much heat affects Nora, and due to the way the canyon and road and cliffs merge together, there are a couple of short but mighty steep hills in the lower portion.

So we didn't go far in the 90 degree heat - after 4 miles, Nora said "NO MORE!!" and we went back.
Heat doesn't bother me, but it knocks Nora for a loop, and sometimes I forget that while I am comfortable, she is suffering.
No biking on Thursday - 112 degrees. But, stopped at a motel with an absolutely wonderful pool in which you can swim laps, so I got in about 25 laps in the pool for exercise. Felt really great!!
Hot here, and our air conditioner went out while away. It is fixed now, and the house is finally cooling down.
Had a great trip!!
